In the 1960s, Dorothy Parker – a member of the Algonquin Round Table – lived in West Hollywood at 8983 Norma Place, with her husband and frequent co-writer Alan Campbell.
On June 14, 1963, after Campbell died in the house, a neighbor asked if Parker needed anything. Parker, known for her droll humor, replied, “Get me another husband.“ Noting the neighbor’s dismay, she said, “Then run down to the corner and get me a ham and cheese on rye. And tell them to hold the mayo.”
